Flashback Friday: Grandpa Shiney & Grandma Wone

Lately I have been thinking alot about my Great-Grandpa Shiney and my Great-Grandma Wone. I don't know if it's because of Memorial Day, and I feel bad that we didn't make it down to Delta to see their graves; or if it's because Rylan has mentioned Grandma Wone a couple times in the last little while. The funny thing about it, is that she died before he was born, but every once in a while he will see a little old lady and ask if it is Grandma Wone, or he'll tell me that "she looks like Grandma Wone". We were at Hogi Yogi on Wednesday and this cute little lady came in and he said "I don't remember Grandma Wone, but I sure do miss her". I know that he didn't know her here on earth, but I do not doubt that he spent some quality time with her in heaven before he came here. I have always thought that either her or Grandpa were there watching over us and taking care of us when he was born, with the way he talks about her, I know that they played an important part in his birth.

Not everyone has a chance to know their Great-Grandparents, but I was lucky enough to have them play a very active and important role in my life. I was so grateful that Hayden was able to know them. Grandma was so happy when I had Hayden, because he was the first great-granchild born in wedlock-I guess I actually did something right for once.

I loved going to Grandma's house and having her offer you a rootbeer float or a lemonade every two minutes. I loved that she said she couldn't see very well, but she could sure tell you that she didn't like your new hair color or that you seemed to be putting on a little weight :) I loved Grandpa's trilobites, geodes, singing and fun sense of humor.

I am so grateful to have known them and to have been a part of their family. I love and miss them so very much.

I remember them too! I didn't know they were still around when you had Hayden! That's amazing. You are very lucky to be so close to your family. Obviously your kids are following in your family oriented footsteps.

You guys are funny. It's just the picture that makes me look good (that's why I posted it) haha. I swear I have a gut though. It's one of those things where it looks good til I lean over. All that stretched skin. I'm sure you know what i'm talking about. : ) Thanks for the compliment though, I'll take it while I can. You do look fabulous yourself, and your kids are adorable! I need to meet a lot of family still, including yours. One of these days...
